An acrylic assembly holds a 100 turn coil with 4mm socket connections which slide on a long, 15mm diameter acrylic tube. Ideal for use with PC-based oscilloscopes
An assembly supports a coil so that it can be easily slide up and down a support tube and locked in position. When a small cylinderical magnet (supplied) is dropped down the tube, the resultant induced EMF can be monitored with an oscillioscope or data-logger. The amplitude varies with speed and this provides the basis for a student investigation into the relationship between distance fallen by the magnet and the output amplitude. At post-16, equations of motion can be used to determine the speed and if a PC storage oscillioscope is available, there is scope for investigation of output characteristics.
