This tube is designed to show that static electricity is produced by friction. When mercury is quickly rolled from one end to the other end of the tube, or by rubbing silk cloth piece, friction between glass and mercury produces static electricity which in turn glows the gas which is filled inside the tube. Length of tube is 20 cm and dia. 15 mm approx.
